Windows 10 - How to create a Virtual hard Drive (VHD) - Image of existing hard drive

Open Run Prompt (Windows Key +R) Type Diskmgmt.msc and Click OK

Click on Action and Select Create VHD


Set the Path for VHD by Clicking on Browse



Type a Name for VHD and Click Save




Select the Format of the Hard Drive


Select the Virtual Hard Disk Storage type

·    Fixed Size - A fixed-size virtual hard disk is a .vhd file whose size is determined when the file is created
·    Dynamic - A dynamically expanding virtual hard disk is one in which the size of the
.vhd file grows as data is written to the virtual hard disk.



Click OK




Initializing VHD







Select the partition Style and Click OK






Right Click on the partition

Click New Simple Volume


Click Next


Click next



Select the Drive Letter and Click next


Click on Next



Click Finish
